Born in Thailand, Mr. Chamsuwan moved to the United States of America
at the age of four, residing with his family in New York City. As
a child, he expressed a love for drawing and creative storytelling,
a passion that remains with him to this day.
After
high school, Mr. Chamsuwan traveled to Georgia to study architecture
at The
Savannah College of Art and Design. Midway through
his tenure at the college, Mr. Chamsuwan decided to pursue a career
in illustration and sequential
art , although
he would complete the architecture program in order to "learn
to draw better backgrounds for comicbooks." That, of course,
is a joke; Mr. Chamsuwan maintains that architecture is an especially
well rounded field of study, marrying aesthetic and practical pursuits.
Thus, he gained from his college education not only a strong grasp
on art and design but also an understanding of human needs and psychology,
assets Mr. Chamsuwan holds equally dear.
After
graduating from SCAD, Nirut Chamsuwan went on to work as artist
on several comicbook series, including the critically acclaimed
Knewts of the Round Table from Pan Entertainment.
In
2002 Mr. Chamsuwan returned to Thailand and spent nearly six months
exploring and getting back in touch with his heritage. Since then,
he has been actively working on projects to promote English development
in his native country through the visual arts, taking advantage
of the skills he had acquired abroad.
Dismayed
by the lack of interesting supplemental materials to reinforce the
formal English learned in Thai classrooms, Mr. Chamsuwan decided
to produce a comicbook which would attract students to read in English.
Well experienced with producing comicbooks in the United States,
Mr. Chamsuwan sought to pen a story which was, first, entertaining
on its own merits and, second, that could be adapted for use in
an English reading supplement. The result is Run.
Early
in 2004, Mr. Chamsuwan formed Nirut Chamsuwan Studios, recognizing
the value of both art and English not only to Thai society but across
the globe.
Currently,
Nirut Chamsuwan divides his time between Thailand and the United
States. He still teaches courses
and seminars
in addition to his duties as director of Nirut Chamsuwan
Studios. Besides art and writing, Mr. Chamsuwan is a regular moviegoer
and an avid toy collector, having grown up as part of the Star
Wars generation.
