An academic officer at the Thai Ministry of Education, Dr. Phonwit
Kirdmee graduated with a bachelor's degree in secondary education
at the Prasommith College of Education. He continued his studies
abroad and later earned a master's degree in teaching science from
the University of the Philippines, followed by a doctorate in educational
administration from the University of Northern Philippines.
Beyond
his formal studies and career, Dr. Kirdmee travels and conducts
educational research, particularly in the areas of child-based learning
and teaching techniques. He has visited numerous countries, including
Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and the United States of
America. When he is abroad, Dr. Kirdmee enjoys opportunities to
visit different schools, observe different approaches to education,
and collect educational materials to translate and adapt for use
in the development of Thailand's own educational practices.
Dr.
Kirdmee helped develop Cooperative Techniques in Science Teaching
for Secondary Schools, a popular program among science educators
which incorporated social skills into science learning. Subsequently,
he supervised a follow-up training project titled Academic Support
for Curricular Teaching and Learning Development, in the People's
Democratic Republic of Laos, concentrating on the effect of cooperative
teaching on students' cognitive and social development.
Currently,
Dr. Kirdmee serves as vice-director for the Bureau of Monitoring
and Evaluation of Basic Education Management within the Ministry's
Basic Education Commission. A voraciously avid reader, Dr. Kirdmee
is rarely seen without a book at hand and owns a large collection
of texts at his home in Bangkok, Thailand.
