Run super-section unveiled at chamsuwanstudios.com
July 12, 2004

The official Nirut Chamsuwan Studios website continues to grow with the addition of an extensive section supplementing the Run comicbook series. Now, the Run experience expands beyond the printed pages of Run and Run Exercises to include exclusive web content available only at www.chamsuwanstudios.com.

Nirut Chamsuwan has personally been working with web developer Nantawat Subcharoen in developing the Run site's features, which include expanded character profiles, galleries, interactive exercises and previews of upcoming issues and artwork.

"The company website is a constantly evolving entity," says Nirut Chamsuwan. "The Run subsection gives our readers a further glimpse into the Run universe that I simply do not have the space to elaborate upon within the comicbook itself."

Brainstorm launches Run
June 24, 2004

Brainstorm's original comicbook series, Run, is now on sale directly from Nirut Chamsuwan Studios. The fully illustrated series, conceived and executed by Nirut Chamsuwan, follows the fantastic adventures of two Thai children as they travel to distant lands and meet mysterious characters.

"This book is a labor of love for me," says Mr. Chamsuwan. "There has been a push, nationally, for Thais to embrace English, but there is still a lack of suitable materials designed as 'gateways' for people to easily make reading in English a habit. I hope Run can help to fill that void."

Supplementary reading more often than not means dull prose leaning more towards academics than entertainment. Run benefits from Mr. Chamsuwan's extensive experience as a storyteller, presenting a tale designed first and foremost as a compelling work of fiction.

"Most casual readers, children especially, are alienated by foreign-language supplementary reading because it is not inviting. It's dry and obvious…" continues Mr. Chamsuwan. "Run is intended to be a fun read, period. The audience shouldn't once feel as if they're reading a textbook. If it can encourage people to start reading in English and become more comfortable with the language, then the book has done what it's designed to do."

Orders for the first issue of Run are being accepted by Nirut Chamsuwan Studios here.

Phonics program implemented in Bang Plee
May 21, 2004

Beginning today, Nirut Chamsuwan will personally conduct an ongoing phonics program at Bangpleepattanasuksalai School in the province of Samut Prakarn. The program will help students develop English speech and pronunciation skills.

"In my observation of how English is taught in Thailand, I've noticed a concentration on reading and writing at the expense of speaking," revealed Mr. Chamsuwan. "We cannot underestimate the importance of verbal communication and expression in the development of language skills. Traditionally, languages are spoken before they are written. Children learn to talk before they learn to read or write. However, when it comes to teaching Thai students English, the approach has been to focus on reading and writing with very little attention paid to how well students can express themselves verbally… or how willing they are to even speak, for that matter.

"Sometimes it's simply fear," continues Mr. Chamsuwan. "Students are afraid to speak because they have not sufficiently developed that skill."

The program can also help students to read by sounding words out. "I've also found that students are learning English in patterns that are not truly conducive to developing their skills independently. They will remember phrases as building blocks rather than words or letters. The result is an inability to sound out new words using just the English alphabet. Hopefully, we can rectify this."
